PLTI is open to anyone who cares about the well-being of children. The Parent Leadership Training Institute (PLTI) is a 20-week course in democracy and leadership for parents established by the National Parent Leadership Institute and originated in Connecticut. This leadership program is intended to help increase the civic skills of diverse parents and caregivers to become leading advocates for their children and bring about community change. You'll also complete a community project of your design to put your new skills into action!
Examples of community projects completed by Alumn of Waterbury PLTI Class include:
- “Beyond the Step: Parenting Education for Blended Families”
- “Get Certified Initiative ”
- “Help our Sonshine”
- “Mothers Helping Mothers"
- "Project Period"
The Children’s Leadership Training Institute will be offered to the children of PLTI participants, which teaches the same civic skills in an age appropriate way.
PLTI teaches you how to identify problems affecting children - in schools, communities, and in local and state governments - and work toward solutions.
PLTI allows you to explore your own passions, strengths, and ideas while developing your leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. By learning about government and the media, you'll understand how to engage with the political system to get your voice heard!
