Community-serving organizations have been a system of professional services available for children & youth; parents remain the principal caregivers. However, Parents receive little education about how to access services, & other supports for their children, & advocate for & support other children & families. In 2020, Family Leadership Center was established to ahieve a family-driven system of care to provide increased trainings that target a shift in urban trauma which stem from historic and structural conditions of racism, disenfranchisement, and isolation to improve linkages of parents to peer support opportunities, & to have a greater presence of empowered leading parents in decision making spaces.
Now, Leadership Inc., through the Multi-Sector Collaborative nd Systemic Capacity Building approach we empower families in:
Parent Leadership Trainings- addressing the underrepresentation of BIPOC families in positions of influence. By expanding the capacity of parents as change agents for children and families to bring about systems change so that parents increasingly are engaged in policy and process decisions;
Violence Intervention- promoting education and development goals that align with participants’ needs and interests to reduce violence in communities and in families.
Advocacy- Create a mobilization effort to raise awareness of the problem, build bridges between the community and systems to change practice and policy governing response to communities and families facing violence.
Women’s Supports -peer-led support group for women focusing on a woman’s whole life, addressing her experiences with domestic violence/ sexual abuse &lived experience and seeing how these issues are connected to her parenting, her self-image, and her economic and educational opportunities.
We partner with adults and youth, families and individuals, grassroots movements and government agencies to increase civic knowledge, develop innovative tools, and create opportunities to practice inclusive and equitable local leadership.
We foster inclusive environments that promote and nurture diversity, equity, inclusiveness, justice and accessibility, broadly defined, and encourage thoughtful, intentional dialogue that respects the individual and accepts multiple pathways to collective community health.
We strive to build bridges rooted in community that cross social divides at the individual level, as well as connecting traditionally underrepresented people with local decision-makers in order to foster greater trust, cooperation, and capacity to address emerging public issues that impact everyone.
At Leadership Inc.,, we are dedicated to stepping up our efforts in addressing issues in the community and in systems. Leadership Inc., recognizes racism, ethnic discrimination and other forms of oppression have contributed to racial disparities that have existed in the past and persist in the present.
We unequivocally denounce racism and ethnic discrimination in all forms, and we remain committed to building a future of greater opportunity and true equity for all people living in our communities. We act by tackling the barriers to equity from past and present systemic racism that have impeded the health, safety and wellbeing of traditionally marginalized people.
FLC will continue to work with residents across our community to co-create solutions that ensure everyone has the resources, supports, opportunities and networks they need to thrive.
We commit to taking positive action to fight racism and ethnic discrimination by: eliminating barriers; holding ourselves and our community partners accountable; advocating for social justice; elevating community voices; engaging in further training to address biases; and, practicing the change we seek to realize with a vision of a more equitable future for all.
At FLC this means: Thoroughly evaluating programs, partnerships and initiatives for alignment and opportunities, actively soliciting demographic information from community partners on the populations they serve, recruitment of a volunteer diversity, equity and inclusion committee to review policies, procedures and human resources, investing in staff and board training to help recognize biases, recruiting those with limited representation to play an active role through involvement in FLC councils and committees, and incorporating this ongoing commitment throughout the Family Leadership Center's strategic plan.
